Who Are We? We are a group of mature musicians who love to get together and make music. We come from all sorts of backgrounds: teachers, railroad employees, engineers, car wash owners, professional musicians, you name it. Somewhere along the way, we learned to play an instrument . Now, as senior citizens, we can improve our musical skills through the discipline of regular rehearsals. The thrill of playing concerts for people who often can’t get to hear live music makes up for all the work. The group was founded in 1977 and has been playing together since then. Among our 50 or so members, just about all orchestral instruments are covered. What kind of
music do we play?
The music is as diverse as the members. Broadway show tunes, classical pieces, Sousa marches – music you’re likely to be humming after you hear a concert. Around the holidays, we include seasonal music in our concerts. Who do we play
for?
Our audience usually consists of people at retirement communities, senior centers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and schools. We go to their locations, so all 50 of us and our instruments arrive at a location, set up and play. This audience often doesn’t have a chance to hear a large, live orchestra, and they are always very happy to have us . We also offer 2 public concerts during each season. |
